I hiked down this trail last June (2008). The Quiddy River is an incredible river. The forest (that is remaining) is old and big. The trail was faint in most areas, seemingly up kept only by moose Smiley Clear cutting made the trail hard to follow at a couple spots but nothing serious.

The waterfalls are beautiful on this river. And we had a wonderful campsite in a hardwood grove near the mouth of the river. In the morning we explored Martin Head. Adair's shuttled us back to the car later in the day.

It was a great trip. What a fantastic way to arrive at Martin Head.

Can you see the waterfalls from the trail? Are there spur trails going to them? I know there is one to Wallace falls but I believe there are two others further down river...

There are spur trails down to at least 2 other waterfalls (besides Wallace). The only one I stopped at was quite spectacular (I think it was the first one downriver of Wallace Falls). After a steep scramble down over boulders there was a canyon with a large pool at the base where a steep ~30 ft slide entered (terminology? it was waterfall flowing over rock).  Later on the main trail we came to other spur trails and could hear waterfalls but were too tired to explore them. Unfortunetly I can't remember many more details than that. Hope to go back sometime.

The guys from Atlantic Kayaker have dropped some of the Quiddy's waterfalls. Quite impressive! There are some photos on their site.

Holy moly. I had done this trial from Wallace Falls out to Martin Head about 8 years ago. I remembered how to get there but forgot how long it was! Explored a couple spur trails and were treated to beautiful waterfalls. We had hoped to get to the coast..but time did not permit. So bailed without reaching our destination. Part of the trail were hard to follow because of forestry cutting down the trees with the blazes. It was still really fun and a perfect day (Nov 11 - 7 degrees and sunny!). Does anyone know the actual lenght of that section of trail?

It's approximately 7.5km as the crow flies. I'm sure it's probably more like 8km or better following the path.

I put in my last 12 miles of the hike mid-July, it was a 90 degree day  I would like to come back and do this trail again in one straight shot.  So many trails, so little time....
