Trail Registers or Logs

I was reading about these on the Appalachian Trail and was wondering how if could be done on the Fundy Footpath. An idea I had was to take a 30cal Ammo can and paint it with white blazes on each end. There would be a large log book inside with maybe a trail map of that section... They could be sitting on the trail cabled to a tree at strategic places. One at each ends of the trail and one at campsites along the way. Not too sure how intrusive people may find these to be as it may take away splendor of the trail.
Just thought it would be nice to read and see how many people use and enjoy the trail. They could also come in handy for search and rescuers if a hiker became lost of injured. They could use the logs to see if they had came by a certain section etc.
What do you guys think Yea or Nae?
