In the last 5 years the numbers of ATVs have gone up from 10,000 to 15.000 to 60,000 in New Brunswick Trails that were designed, built and maintained by volunteers contributions in time and materials are being used daily by ATVers. Machine thatweigh up to 1000 Lbs with their occuppants do quick work on trails built for foot or bicycle travel . Sad

Had an impromtu discussion with a hiker /walker from Shediac, also read a comment on a CBC Online article that a lot of the Hiking Walking Trails in the Shediac area have been taken over by ATVers in spite of barriers and signage. Also that the ATV operators are quite agressive and will speed up towards pedestrian traffic. The problem is endemic in many areas of the province . Short of forming a province wide coalition to lobby for our non motorized trails, nothing will change . The ATV Fed is constantly eating away at our trails to replace their trails with newer trails. The ATV Fed has also learned the effective use of political lobbying, and unlike us is organised with lots of funding at the grassroot level .The problem is similar in other provinces and states . As an exercise `Google News`  ATV environmental damage , ATV Erosion , and create a news alert . We would be available to set up strategies and form a coaltion to increase our lobbying and reclaim our active living and non motorized community trails
